the bosses.

Each area or department of the show has a boss who presides over them. They are responsible for managing the health of their performers and animals, making sure routines are ready to be performed and dealing with any disputes. It's the responsibility of the boss to ensure their department toes the line and that the Birling brothers are never bothered by any of their employees.

Applications for these characters will be more heavily scrutinised due to the responsibilities involved.

THE MENAGERIE MAN.

in charge of, you guessed it, the menagerie. he presides over all the stock animals on the show, as well as the trainers and performers who use them. it's a hard job but you can bet he gets paid well to do it.
status. taken.

THE AERIALIST BOSS.
often the head of the family if the flying act is kin. this man presides over all the aerialists, as well as those who work the high wire. a former flier himself, he understands the intricacies of these acts and will always be the first to spot an unbalanced performer. on one memorable occasion a former boss broke the fall of a trapeze artist before anyone even had the chance to realise something was amiss.
status. open.

THE DANCER BOSS.
in charge of both the bally and cooch girls and almost always a woman. is a mother, teacher and confidante to the girls in her care, most of whom are young enough to need all three. she earns less than her male peers but the job is the holy grail for a circus dancer. more often than not she tends to end up responsible for any young, single girls on the train too.
status. taken.

THE MENTALIST BOSS.
presides over the illusionists, medium and tarot card reader. their primary concern is safety -both in terms of the stunts performed and the crowd who may decide after a show that they've been cheated.
status. open.

THE SIDESHOW BOSS.
clowns, sword swallowers, fire eaters, contortionists and snake charmers all fall under his rule. his pay is slightly above the roustabouts boss but not by very much, something which often embitters him. on the other hand, his acts tend to be amongst the most manageable and least dangerous.
status. open.

THE SUPPORTERS BOSS.
looks after the cook and kitchen staff, circus band, wardrobe department, grinders and everything else. they have a lot on their plate but most of the people in their department are content to live an easy life, so things usually tick over problem free.
status. taken.

THE ROUSTABOUTS BOSS.
responsible for all the labourers in the circus, train porters, stall holders and ticket sellers. this role is filled by jonny birling himself, though he's certainly learnt the art of delegation over the years.
status. taken. (open to jonny's right hand man).
